We are pleased to offer Acupuncture for Pain Management in Labour for Midwives. This course follows the framework as set forth by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and has been approved by the college. The College of Complementary Healthcare Providers of BC (CCHPBC) has also had a consultative role in the course development and approval of the Acupuncture course for midwives.
In this course you will learn the foundations of traditional Chinese medicine, food therapy, moxibustion, acupressure, how to safely perform acupuncture and learn effective acupuncture protocols to address complications that cause pain during labour.

Raeghan Siemens B.Sc. DTCM, Rac., doula. After receiving her B.Sc from the University of Alberta, Raeghan studied Chinese Medicine at the Canadian College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Victoria, BC. Compelled by Chinese medicine’s 2000-year-old history of treating woman’s reproductive disorders, Raeghan pursued postgraduate studies in obstetrics and gynaecology under Dr. Randine Lewis, Debra Betts, Raven Lang, Jean Lesveque, David Bray, and Sharon Weizenbaum and many other world renowned specialists.
Raeghan has been in practice for over 20 years. She is dedicated to treating all stages of women’s reproductive wellness, from enhancing fertility, through pregnancy, birth and postpartum. By working collaboratively with other health caregivers such as physicians, midwives and doulas Raeghan is able to provide the most comprehensive and effective care for her clients.
Raeghan is the co- founder and board member of the Obstetrical Acupuncture Association (OBAA).
Raeghan lives in White Rock with her husband Dave, daughters Ardyn and Natalia, and dogs Marvin and Steve

Emilie Salomons' (Dr. TCM, Doula, OBAAM) passion lies in gynaecology, fertility, obstetrics, mental health, intersectional feminism and health equity. Along with 19 years of clinical practice in reproductive medicine and mental health, she is a birth doula, the current co-president of the international Obstetrical Acupuncture Association,
Emilie Salomons' (Dr. TCM, Doula, OBAAM) passion lies in gynaecology, fertility, obstetrics, mental health, intersectional feminism and health equity. Along with 19 years of clinical practice in reproductive medicine and mental health, she is a birth doula, the current co-president of the international Obstetrical Acupuncture Association, a cluster lead for Maternal and Infant Health Canada/Health Together (based out of the faculty of medicine at UBC), and a cluster member of Advancing the Science of Physiological Birth (UBC). First registered with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture of BC in 2005, Emilie works at the BC Women's and Children's Hospital as the first contract resident acupuncturist for the Families In Recovery Unit (FIR), and Evergreen (High risk antenatal unit).
Dr. Emilie also has a private practice at Oak Integrative Health, in Burnaby, where she is dedicated to helping people achieve their dreams of having healthy, happy families, and optimal personal health and wellbeing. Dr. Emilie is a registrant in good standing with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture of BC.
In keeping with her commitment to work at the community level, Emilie has volunteered in Uganda, Somalia (Somaliland), Nepal, India and Mexico, teaching Nurses, Midwives, OBs, allied health workers and Traditional African Medicine Practitioners.

Shannon completed a 5 year program in Chinese Medicine in 2009 and holds a diploma of Doctor of Chinese Medicine from the International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Vancouver. Her studies include clinical practice at the China Medical University and Hospital in Taiwan. In 2014 Shannon also completed a 2 year Master's Mentors
Shannon completed a 5 year program in Chinese Medicine in 2009 and holds a diploma of Doctor of Chinese Medicine from the International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Vancouver. Her studies include clinical practice at the China Medical University and Hospital in Taiwan. In 2014 Shannon also completed a 2 year Master's Mentorship Program with Sharon Weizenbaun at the White Pine Institute. In 2020 she completed her certification in Great Turning Medicine with the White Pine Institute where she currently is a teacher’s assistant. Other major influences to Shannon's practice include pulse diagnosis based on the Chinese Medicine Classics with mentorship from Nadine Zach and of Saam Acupuncture with mentorship from Toby Daly.
While Shannon's interest in Chinese Medicine is wide ranging, her passion for women's health has led her to pursue training in workshops by some of the leaders in Chinese Medicine for fertility and obstetrics including Sharon Weizenbaum, Debra Betts and Randine Lewis. Shannon was a partner in Acumamas for 6 years and has extensive hours of experience attending labours both as an acupuncturist as well as a birth doula. In 2019 Shannon taught BC’s Midwive’s certification course for Acupuncture in Labour and she traveled to Chiapis, Mexico in January 2020 to teach at the Luna Maya Birth Centre. Shannon currently sits on the board of the Obstetrical Acupuncture Association and works at the BC Women's and Children's Hospital as a contract acupuncturist for the Families In Recovery Unit (FIR).
